The memorial of Grace Darling
The Grace Darling memorial is an ornate memorial to one of Bamburgh’s most famous residents, and is situated within St. Aiden’s churchyard. Grace is a local heroine to Bamburgh and the Farne Islands.
The memorial is in the churchyard directly across from the museum. Grace Darling was born in 1815 and died in 1842. The memorial commemorates her life.
People wished that she would always be remembered and money was raised to build the monument in her memory.
On the grave: To the memory of Grace Horsley Darling, a native of Bamburgh, who died October 20th 1842, aged 26 years old.
